New Shows!

January 12th, 2012 by Station Manager

Some new shows are making their way to our airwaves this week!!

Starting overnight tonight (Late Thursday, early Friday) from 1-3am the new Comic Book and Pop Culture show Where Monsters Dwell from New Brunswick begins airing on CILU. You can find out more about them at www.wheremonstersdwell.ca . Friday at 11am, Big Picture Science makes its official timeslot debut on LU Radio. You may remember that we brought this show on as a tester over the holidays and thoroughly enjoyed it. You can find out more about them at: http://radio.seti.org/ . Then we move ahead to Tuesday where Health First (another holidy trial show) begins airing from 1-2pm. Find out more about this great natural and alternative health show from B.C. here: http://www.cfisfm.com/shows/health-first-show.html

More new shows are coming very soon, many of which will be replacing some of our overnight rebroadcasts but we’ve got some neat tricks up our sleeves as well.

Sadly we are saying goodbye (or at least ‘See You Later’) to a few shows as well. Awake and Alive finished its run last week, the 9-10pm slot on Monday will now be held down by Drumspeak Music, which moves from Tuesdays at 1pm. Robin Ranger has put Strictly Off The Record on hiatus for now, but we have a new show beginning on the 25th of January entitled Valve which will focus on Brass Band music to jump into the Wednesday 8:30-10pm timeslot. The Soul Kitchen is also ending its run that week and a new old school Hip Hop show entitled The Pile Drive will take up residency in the 11pm-Midnight on Saturday slot.

That’s it for now. Don’t forget that we’ve got Derelicte happening on Saturday January 21st at Black Pirates Pub, it’s going to be a whole lot of fun!

Should Old Acquaintance Be Forgot…

December 31st, 2011 by Station Manager

Before I talk about all of the changes coming up at LU Radio, I want to first express our gratitude to all of you, the listeners, who have tuned in and hung around this year. As we come to the end of 2011, I hope that all of you have had a wonderful holiday season and that 2012 is a great year for you!
The New Year always seems to be a time for change here at the station, and this year is no exception. The end of 2011 will also see the end of Twin Propeller Radio, Vexed Perspective* and Outside The Rectangular Prism. There will be some other changes shortly into 2012, including the end of Soul Kitchen and some others that have not yet been confirmed. 2012 looks to be a bit of a shakeup year here at LU Radio, and I hope you enjoy what we bring you! I’m currently updating the schedule so you will see those changes soon, as well as in The Argus in their first issue back of 2012. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch: info@luradio.ca

(*Vexed Perspective isn’t leaving, but it is changing, see below)

Changes:

MondayTechno Tardis will no longer air from 5-6 pm. It will be replaced by Box Whine, a new show to LU Radio discussing issues pertaining to young, modern women in the Thunder Bay Community. Indie Rock Roller Coaster is also moving and will be replaced with Aural Fix, moving from Wednesday afternoons to the Monday 7-9pm timeslot.

TuesdayBrilliant Corners will be making a ‘leap frog’ move and changing times from 2-4 pm to 6-8 pm, replacing Sonic Blender.

WednesdayTechno Tardis moves into the timeslot vacated by Aural Fix and picks up an extra hour, now airing from 3-5pm.

ThursdayTwin Propeller Radio has ended and Harris will now be joining forces with Mike from Vexed Perspective in the 6-8pm timeslot. Sonic Blender makes the jump from Tuesday to Thursday to take over the vacated 8-10pm slot.

Friday – remarkably untouched as of this writing….

SaturdayOutside the Rectangular Prism has ended so The Indie Rock Rollercoaster is moving from Mondays to take over the 5-7pm timeslot.

Sunday – also remarkably untouched right now…

Also of note: we will be bringing a new show called Big Picture Science to the station, although we aren’t sure of the time slot as of yet. You can find more information about it here: http://radio.seti.org/pages/about_the_show . We’ve also begun airing a show with a more mainstream bent entitled Rock Star Weekly late Monday night, from 1-2am. You can find more about that here: http://www.rockstarweekly.com/

More news and changes coming soon!

Also, keep in mind that on Saturday January 21st, Derelicte is returning to Black Pirates Pub! This is a joint fundraiser for LU Radio and The Definitely Superior Art Gallery, featuring live music, fashion, art and more! Last year was a blast and this year will be even better! Stay tuned for more details!

Happy New Year everyone!
