Forever Dead! on January 9th!

December 19th, 2014 by Media

On January 9th, CILU’s concert series continues with performances from The Seaside Villains, Morning Light, and Forever Dead! at the Outpost.  Every Friday before that concert, we’re going to feature some fun facts about each of the bands.  First up is Forever Dead!

Since 2005, Forever Dead have released two full length albums, a hand full of EP’s, and endured long hours down lonely highways. In the years since forming, the band has hit roadblocks, dead ends and has undergone a few personality changes, but now stands on solid ground with Chelsea Heart (vocals), George Gratz (bass), Gratzo (guitar), and Tyler T. Destroyer (drums). A powerful and energetic presence with a cocktail of influences from punk, rock, psychobilly, ska and just about any other genera, FD! appeals to a broad and eclectic audience, or anyone who has a thirst for kick ass Rock’N’Roll.

Here are some fun facts about Forever Dead!

  • 2015 will be their 10th year as a band
  • They all have the same last name
  • They have done several tours around Ontario
  • They have a new album coming out in 2015

And here’s a video for their 2013 single “Space Madness.”

You can find more of their music on their Youtube and MySpace pages.

Come and see Forever Dead! for only $5 on January 9th!  All proceeds go to help fund the Gender Issues Centre and CILU.

The perfect little present

December 4th, 2014 by News

Are you stuck on what to get your hard-to-shop-for Uncle Bart for Christmas this year? Or maybe you just want to replace those boring commercial Christmas crackers with something more interesting.

Well, you’re in luck. If you’ve stopped by our booth at Bluesfest or another summer event in recent years, you’re probably familiar with our very popular CD grab bags. We sort our extra CDs* by genre and then package them together in small mystery sets. For Christmas this year, we thought we’d make extra fancy grab packages to sell. And they turned out so pretty, you can give them as is!

These stocking-stuffer sized packages contain 3 pre-loved CDs each. They’re easy on the wallet at $3 each or 2 for $5. And we’re splitting the proceeds between LU Radio and the RFDA, so you can feel extra good about your purchase.

So far, we have packages available in these genres:

Aboriginal
African
Alternative Rock
Blues
Caribbean
Country
Electronic
Flute
Folk
Heavy Alternative
Indie Pop
Indie Rock
Jazz
Latin
North African
Metal
Piano
Soul
World
Zydeco/Cajun

Some genres are limited, so if you know in advance what you’d like, call or email Krista at 766-7254 or krista@luradio.ca and we’ll put aside some packs just for you. Or if you know you want 20 packs of Heavy Metal, let us know so we can be prepared! We can even customize each pack with the name of your loved ones.

Pick them up at the station until December 19th (by appointment), or get them at the Christmas Bizarre Bazaar at the Baggage Building on December 13th.

*Why do we have so many extra CDs to get rid of, you ask? Well, it’s not usually because it’s bad music. We often get mailed duplicates by record labels, or we go through older discs and get rid of the ones that are no longer getting airplay, or we get donations of CDs from individuals or other organizations. We can’t promise you’ll love every CD, but you will definitely get exposed to some music you’ve never heard and you might just find a new favourite band!
