Morning Light on January 9th!

January 2nd, 2015

On January 9th, CILU’s concert series continues with performances from The Seaside Villains, Morning Light, and Forever Dead! at the Outpost.  Every Friday before that concert, we’re going to feature some fun facts about each of the bands.  We’ve already covered Forever Dead! and the Seaside Villains.  So this week we’re featuring Morning Light.

Morning Light is a rock band that plays everything but rock.  They’re sometimes an acoustic duo, at other times a full band.  Morning Light is made up of Scott Freeborn (guitar), Nancy Freeborn (lead vocals and keys), Derek (Spawk) Martins (bass guitar), Harley Curley (drums), Jay Claus (guitar), Paula DiGiuseppe (vocals), Michelle Salgueiro (vocals), and Spencer Hari (vocals).

Here’s Nancy and Scott performing “Water in a Bucket”:

And here they are performing “The Fall”:

You can find more of their music on their Youtube page.

Come and see Morning Light for only $5 on January 9th!  All proceeds go to help fund the Gender Issues Centre and CILU.

The Seaside Villains on January 9th!

December 26th, 2014

On January 9th, CILU’s concert series continues with performances from The Seaside Villains, Morning Light, and Forever Dead! at the Outpost.  Every Friday before that concert, we’re going to feature some fun facts about each of the bands.  Last week we covered Forever Dead!  This week it’s the Seaside Villains.

The Seaside Villains have been bringing a high energy ska-reggae-rock show to the Thunder Bay music scene for more than 4 years now, playing hundreds of shows in the process. Their sound has been likened to Sublime, the Aggrolites, Against Me!, and others, all the while bringing a very west coast warm sound to the cold northern Ontario and surrounding music clubs. Their goals are simple: to have a great time, and to ensure that the audience is having an equally rocking time, shaking their money makers.  The current Seaside Villains are Ryan Furchner (vocals & guitar), Eric Westelaken (guitar & vocals), Dave Angell (bass), and Josh Hogan (drums).

Here are some fun facts about the Seaside Villains:

  • They were originally called Party at the Moontower.
  • They’re on drummer number nine.
  • They’ve done three eastern Canadian tours.
  • They’re working heavily on their next album, release date to be determined.

Here they are performing the Cadillac Victory Song at the Black Pirate’s Pub:

You can find more of their music on their Youtube and Myspace pages.

Come and see the Seaside Villains for only $5 on January 9th!  All proceeds go to help fund the Gender Issues Centre and CILU.

Forever Dead! on January 9th!

December 19th, 2014

On January 9th, CILU’s concert series continues with performances from The Seaside Villains, Morning Light, and Forever Dead! at the Outpost.  Every Friday before that concert, we’re going to feature some fun facts about each of the bands.  First up is Forever Dead!

Since 2005, Forever Dead have released two full length albums, a hand full of EP’s, and endured long hours down lonely highways. In the years since forming, the band has hit roadblocks, dead ends and has undergone a few personality changes, but now stands on solid ground with Chelsea Heart (vocals), George Gratz (bass), Gratzo (guitar), and Tyler T. Destroyer (drums). A powerful and energetic presence with a cocktail of influences from punk, rock, psychobilly, ska and just about any other genera, FD! appeals to a broad and eclectic audience, or anyone who has a thirst for kick ass Rock’N’Roll.

Here are some fun facts about Forever Dead!

  • 2015 will be their 10th year as a band
  • They all have the same last name
  • They have done several tours around Ontario
  • They have a new album coming out in 2015

And here’s a video for their 2013 single “Space Madness.”

You can find more of their music on their Youtube and MySpace pages.

Come and see Forever Dead! for only $5 on January 9th!  All proceeds go to help fund the Gender Issues Centre and CILU.
