Five years ago this week LU Radio launched into the airwaves of Thunder Bay. For 5 years now we’ve been broadcasting at 102.7FM here in town and world-wide at www.luradio.ca even longer. In fact, LU Radio actually started about 17 years ago, broadcasting strictly in the halls of Lakehead University. However, it’s the FM broadcast that really pushed LU Radio into the ‘limelight’ so to speak and has really gotten us noticed in Thunder Bay. The outpouring of support from the students of Lakehead University as well as the Thunder Bay Community and the dedication and hard work put forth by our volunteer base has been absolutely incredible. Many faces have moved through the station over the years, and every one of them deserves to give themselves a pat on the back for their part in the growth of the station.

For those of you here in Thunder Bay, I encourage you to take a drive past our house at 707 Oliver Rd. and see the sign that The Old Vicar (host of Harpin’ With The Blues on Saturday 10:30-Noon) has created for us. Special thanks go out to Wanson Lumber and Tangent Stairs here in Thunder Bay. Both companies helped to supply the station with the materials needed to craft this incredible sign! For those of you outside Thunder Bay, pictures will be coming soon!

You’ll probably have noticed the new website, which is going to allow us to expand what it is we do here online. Special thanks to Andrew Doran host of Frequency (Friday 10pm-Midnight) for working so hard on this! The blogs feature isn’t ready to go yet BUT Andrew is working hard to get it ready so keep your eyes open for it! Also, thank you to Dan Klein, host of Thursday Afternoon Jazz (Thursday 2-4pm) for getting us a server so we can stream again so quickly! Finally, a special thanks to the Kyle Family and Mary J. for helping out with the Open House today! Oh, and thank you to everyone who dropped by to say hello!

I could probably thank each and every person here but no one would read it so…thank you all. Whether you are a volunteer, programmer, former LU Radio member, listener and/or supporter. Everything you have done has helped to get us where we are. It’s been an amazing 5 years and we’re looking forward to many, many more!
