It’s been so busy around here lately that I keep forgetting to update in advance!! Going on this evening (Tuesday Feb. 23rd) beginning at 5pm and running all night until 7am it’s the Homelessness Marathon originating at CKUT in Montreal. LU Radio will be hosting a segment live here at the station from 1-2am. We will be discussing homelessness and poverty in Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario. Since we had some technical issues today, we will be broadcasting from inside the station instead of outside, feel free to call in, we’ll do our best to get questions answered and on the air! 807-766-7207.
Wednesday at 7pm, the Lakehead Thunderwolves Women’s Basketball team will be hosting a playoff game at home for the first time in years! I encourage you all to attend the game if you can, but if not, never fear, we will be broadcasting the game live here on LU Radio. We will also be broadcasting the Mens Basketball playoff home game on Saturday at 7pm here at the station! This does mean that Classical Thunder Bay and Rawk Star Gurl’s Rawkin’ Hour of Rawk And Roll will be pre-empted but should be back on track next week!
Don’t forget that NEXT Friday, March 5th, LU Radio celebrates our 5th birthday with an open house here at 707 Oliver Rd. from noon-8pm. There will be DJ’s on hand, cake to be eaten and new stuff happening here on the website and here in our front yard! Stop by or give us a call at 343-8881 if you would like some more information!

It’s been another gap in updating, but it’s that time of year where holidays abound and we don’t necessarily have a lot of guests arriving to populate the station. We are definitely gearing up for some big changes this year in terms of programming and I hope I can give you some more information on that in the coming weeks. For now though, starting Sunday August 9th, a new show entitled P.T.O. Junction will be taking over the 9-10pm timeslot. Tune in to hear Aaron’s unique take on music followed, of course, by No Rush at 10pm.
Blowing Up The Lakehead has been a fixture on LU Radio for a number of years now and has undergone several changes over the years. Starting Monday August 10th, the show will go into rebroadcast mode for 3 weeks, then on the 31st of August the show will officially move to the Tuesday Midnight-3am timeslot only. The Witchfinder General is finding it harder and hard to produce quality material for you so he’s decided to take a break and cut back a little to refine things.
LU Radio is also gearing up for Orientation week here at Lakehead University as well as the second Music For the Masses concert. This year, the concert has spread to 2 nights and 3 venues, taking in the Black Pirate Pub, The Outpost and The Study. Posters are being worked on as we speak but check out the events page or tbshows.com for more information. Also keep your eyes open for new LU Radio swag at the LUSU office and at any event where LU Radio has a presence, it’s coming, and we know you’re going to dig it!
