Live!

June 18th, 2010 by Station Manager

Well, we’re back up and running! The booth has some new wiring, the station has a better electrical service and some new lighting so that we can see just what it is we’re doing! Thanks so much for sticking it out with us! We have some new equipment coming any day now as well which is also going to help operations here and perhaps help pave the way for some new shows as well!

Speaking of shows, I have some bad news to impart to all of you long time political activists out there. Unfortunately The Josh Kolic Experience has called it a day on LU Radio. At least for now. Josh feels that he hasn’t been able to give the show the attention it deserves lately so he has decided to step down. We’re definitely going to miss him around here and wish him all the best! Hopefully we’ll see him return in the fall!

Speaking of returning, Big D is returning to LU Radio! Tropical Storm makes its return Sunday June 27th at 5pm. Hockey Talk has finished for the season, and Big D is stepping into that slot to turn the ice into sunshine with Soca and Reggae to get you up and dancing at the dinner table! For those of you who are Andrew Edwards fans, keep an eye on the schedule for his return to a music format show. He’ll be bringing back punk rock to the late night crowd following Blowing Up The Lakehead soon. We’ll let you know when his new show starts!

By the way, this Sunday from 3-5pm EST, Stephen will have an interview with Nightwood who are playing town on Monday! Make sure to tune in and check it out!

I think that’s it for now, but I’m sure as soon as I post this something will change or we’ll have some new idea for you. Keep your eyes here and your ears on the radio for new information! Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and become our fan on Facebook so that you can get the WHOLE experience! ;)

Power Outage

June 15th, 2010 by Station Manager

Today (June 15th) beginning at 1pm, we will be experiencing a power outage at LU Radio’s worldwide headquarters at 707 Oliver Rd. Our FM broadcast should not be affected however our internet broadcast will be down for several hours. Everything should be back up and running by tonight and we’ll resume normal broadcasts at 9am Thursday morning. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email: manager[@]luradio.ca .

I’ll have a news update for you later tonight or tomorrow morning as well!

A Warm Summer Update

May 29th, 2010 by Station Manager

It’s been a few sad weeks for the music and entertainment industry. Pete Steele, Ronnie James Dio, Paul Gray, Gary Coleman, and today Dennis Hopper have all passed away within the last few months. Sadly, Oliver, the cat from next door to the station also passed away this week. Oliver used to come and sun himself on our stairs, chase the chipmunk who lives in the tree in front of the station, and hang out with the deer that come to visit from time to time. I’d like to express our deepest sympathies to Mary (our next door neighbour) as I know Oliver meant a lot to her.

In other news, our schedule is now up to date! The station has had a lot of changes in programming lately and those continue. To chronicle them all would be a bit of a task at this point, so I encourage you to go check out the schedule and see what’s what! I have 3 new shows to tell you about as well: French Connection now airs every Thursday morning from 8-9am. This comes to us from our good friends at CiTR in Vancouver. Sunday mornings we now have Japanese Musiquest from 7:30-8am which is coming to us from Kootenay Coop Radio. Finally we have Brendan McGuigan on Sundays from 10-11am with the Jumpkick Disco Throwdown. Make sure to check out all of these great new shows!

Finally, a few departures to mention: Rob has had to call it quits again for The Fun Factory, keep an eye out for his replacement. There have also been some changes to Ends of the Earth which has put that show in question so we’ve removed it from our lineup for the time being and will let you know if/when it returns. Four Directions Radio has also had to leave due to some family emergencies. All of us here at LU Radio wish Mark and Kathleen the best and hope they are able to return to us and their studies very soon.

I think that’s it for now. Keep your eye on the site for more updates, more new shows and maybe a surprise or two…you just never know!
