Where Did The Groundhog Go?

February 5th, 2010 by Station Manager

Seems like I’m saying ‘Wow’ a lot these days; sometimes because of good things, and sometimes it’s not-so-good. In this case, the ‘Wow’ could go either way as I’m surprised it’s already February!! We’ve got a lot of stuff to talk about over the next little while and you’re going to see this website filling up with lots of information and news in the coming weeks!

First off, TONIGHT and Tomorrow night on LU Radio is the second to last home games for the Lakehead Thunderwolves Women’s and Men’s basketball teams. We’ll be broadcasting the games live beginning at approximately 6pm both nights so make sure to tune in! ALSO tonight is the broadcast premiere of a new show entitled ‘Lucid Translucency’, airing at midnight right after ‘Frequency’. Make sure to tune in, though I’ll warn you, it’s not for the faint of heart! Both the music and subject matter may be challenging for some folks, but I think you’ll really enjoy it if you give it a try!

Secondly, LU Radio is saying ‘see you later’ to one of it’s shows and (very) loyal programmers on Monday. Franz is taking a break from ‘Tiny Tidbits of Inner and Outer Membrane’s’ (Monday 10pm-Midnight) so make sure to tune in on the 8th and call him in the booth to wish him well. We’re not sure when the show will return, but I don’t think Franz can stay away!! Stay tuned as well to see what show will materialize in that timeslot next…

Thirdly, The 3rd Annual People’s Prom: Battlestar Promtastica is coming up fast! It takes place on Saturday February 13th at the Finlandia Hall. Check out our events page for details or the tbshows.com page or, heck, you can even find it on Facebook!

Speaking of Facebook, did you know that LU Radio has a facebook page (Lu Campus-Radio) and a group (LU Radio)? We have a twitter feed as well (luradio1027)! We’ve been neglecting them a little but there will be a definite ramping up over the next few weeks so make sure you try out all of our social networking stuff ASAP!

Finally, on March 5th LU Radio will be celebrating its 5th anniversary as an FM station. We’re going to celebrate by having an open house here at 707 Oliver Rd. and everyone is welcome! More details on happenings in March will be forthcoming but the open house will take place from noon to 8pm on Friday March 5th and we’ll have staff and DJ’s on hand to give you a tour of our humble abode and answer any questions you may have!!

Wow!! Thank You!!

Thunder Bay! It is always amazing to see the outpouring of love for both us here at LU Radio and the great folks at Definitely Superior Art Gallery. Derelicte this year was absolutely stunning! Not only was the turn out incredible, but the fashion houses, models, artists and performers were all simply incredible. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend last year so I don’t have a comparison frame of reference but this year just seemed to be over the top in quality. 2 days later and I’m still staggered by the event!

We here at LU Radio want to thank everyone who came out/performed/designed/donated time/or was just involved. Events like Derelicte take a lot of planning and commitment all around and we definitely appreciate all that went in to making Derelicte so amazing. I personally would like to thank Renee, David and Lora from Definitely Superior Art Gallery. This event would never have happened without them and their hard work. We are incredibly lucky to be partnered with such amazing folks! Also, a big thank you to Matty, Onur, Sean and all the staff at Black Pirates Pub for the venue. Not only does the space work very well with the event but they are always professional and fun to work with! Thank you all!!

In other news…The People’s Prom is coming up quickly at the Finlandia Club (February 13th) so make sure you keep an eye on our events page for more information. It will be posted there very soon!

This Week! Derelicte!!

January 20th, 2010 by Station Manager

Hello listeners & readers alike! This weekend is a big weekend for LU Radio for several reasons but the most important reason is that our combined fundraiser with Definitely Superior Art Gallery, a fashion and music extravaganza entitled ‘Derelicte 2010: A Fashion Odyssey’ is happening this Saturday! For all the details on this event, check out our events page, or the post on TBShows.com here or the facebook event here. It’s a great night of fun and an awesome cause: supporting Definitely Superior Art Gallery and LU Radio. We’d all love to see you there!!!

Also this weekend, the Thunderwolves Basketball team will be at home, so we’ll be broadcasting both games against the Guelph Gryphons on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 6pm.
